Barrel races that are BRN4D or NWBHA prime sanctioned have options when it comes to the format of Divisional Splits. Producers must specify an option on their sanction form, contestant entry forms and all advertising.
These options are:
----4D Option 1/2: 1D – Fastest Time (FT) 2D – FT plus .5 second 3D – FT plus 1 second 4D – FT plus 1.5 seconds
----4D Option 1: 1D – Fastest Time (FT) 2D – FT plus .5 second 3D – FT plus 1 second 4D – FT plus 2 seconds
----5D: 1D – Fastest Time (FT) 2D – FT plus .5 second 3D – FT plus 1 second 4D – FT plus 1.5 seconds 5D – FT plus 2 seconds
Let's use our results from Open Race 1 on August 7th in Winchester as an example! Fast time was 16.778, and we use 4D Option 1 as our format. We can see that there is a full second between the 3D and 4D. The 4D started at a 18.778 and had 13 riders fall into that Division.
***If we were formatted as a 5D, the 4D time would have been a 18.278 with only 9 riders in the 4D.
Using the chart below, we can see that a 4D Option 1 time is the same as a 5D time. If we were to apply a 5D format to the same results, you can see the difference in the adjusted results.
